Pedestrianisation will make it far harder for people with restricted mobility, such as the elderly, people with buggies and wheelchair users, to access Oxford Street. Many people with restricted mobility rely on taxis to access the West End and the shops, restaurants and culture there. Taxis are the only fully accessible vehicle on London’s street and provide door-to-door service which will be lost under current plans. Many people also rely on buses to access Oxford Street. Pedestrianisation will just make Oxford Street less accessible- Westminster Council and TfL even acknowledge this in the proposals.
