Oxford Street is currently one of the most congested streets in Central London, not just with public transport, but also with private vehicles that the Council isn’t cracking down on. Once traffic is banned from running through Oxford Street, this is likely to get far worse.
Several streets, including major roads like Park Lane and Edgware Road, will see significant increases in journey time- with some trips lasting six minutes longer.
There were an average of 6,000 taxis on Oxford Street West every day in 2016. If taxi access is restricted, taxis will be forced to move through neighbouring streets.
